Staub is a French brand from Turckheim in Alsace, founded in 1974, and the chef's favourite among French enameled cast iron. Its lids have self-basting spikes that drip moisture back onto the food, and the dark enamel interior hides staining well.
Favoured by Paul Bocuse and many French Michelin kitchens, Staub sits slightly heavier and more rustic than Le Creuset and is often rated a touch better for slow braising. Since 2008 the brand has been owned by the German group Zwilling J.A. Henckels, though the cast iron is still produced in France.
