Suunto is a Finnish brand founded in 1936, when the orienteer Tuomas Vohlonen set out to make a more accurate compass. Today it is known for rugged outdoor and adventure watches with precise GPS navigation and long battery life, run from its headquarters and factory in Finland.
The ownership is worth flagging: Amer Sports sold Suunto to the Chinese wearables company Liesheng in 2022, so the brand and its Finnish operations continue but the owner is now Chinese. Some models are made in Finland and others in China. Suunto remains a strong choice for hikers, divers and endurance athletes.
