Not all transatlantic flights burn the same fuel. On a given route, the least efficient airlines can use around two-thirds more fuel per passenger than the best, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation's transatlantic ranking. The gap comes down to aircraft type, seating density and how full the plane flies.
