In response to growing consumer interest in supporting European brands, Denmark's largest retailer, Salling Group, has introduced a new labeling system across its Netto, Bilka, and Føtex stores. This initiative features a small star icon on electronic price tags, indicating products owned by European companies, thereby enabling customers to make informed choices favoring European goods.

The decision to implement this labeling system stems from numerous customer inquiries expressing a preference for European brands. Salling Group CEO Anders Hagh emphasized that while the stores will continue to offer products from around the world, the new labels serve as an additional service for customers seeking to support European brands.

This move aligns with a broader trend among Danish consumers who are increasingly mindful of product origins. The labeling system not only caters to customer preferences but also reflects a growing desire to support local and regional economies. By highlighting European-owned brands, Salling Group empowers consumers to make choices that align with their values, fostering a deeper connection to the products they purchase.

The introduction of origin-based labeling by Salling Group represents a significant shift in retail practices, emphasizing transparency and consumer empowerment. As this initiative gains traction, it may influence other retailers to adopt similar strategies, potentially leading to a broader movement towards supporting regional products within the European market.
