Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer opened their first shop in Sneek, in the Netherlands, in 1841, and the family still owns the company. C&A has around 1,300 stores across Europe, run from Düsseldorf and Vilvoorde, and its online shop covers the same range: cheap T-shirts, jeans, underwear and children's clothes. It was an early mover on certified organic cotton and publishes its supplier list. Online orders can be returned to any store, which makes it one of the simplest sites on this list for exchanges.
