Climber Roman Kamler sewed his first sleeping bag in 1983 on his mother's sewing machine and registered the business in 1986. Tilak became the Czech Gore-Tex licensee in 1993 and was the only one for years. Kamler and Errolson Hugh have worked together since 2000, and Tilak sewed early ACRONYM garments. Kamler sold the company in 2021 to the Prague investment group Perinpe, which also bought Direct Alpine in 2026. Kamler stayed on in product development. Tilak supplies the Czech Mountain Rescue and Japan is its largest export market. Around 90 employees.
