Ole Andreas Devold started knitting in Ålesund in 1853. Devold wool kept Norwegian fishermen and polar expeditions warm for a century. The family sold in 1961 and the Flakk Group owned the brand for decades. Devold moved production into its own Lithuanian factory in 2015 instead of Asia. The factory does knitting, cutting and sewing under one roof. Fenix Outdoor, the Swedish owner of Fjällräven, bought 65% in 2025 and the rest in 2026. The old mill in Langevåg is now an outlet and cultural centre.
