Hans Deuter started as a sailcloth and linen weaver. The first nylon packs came in 1968 and the first bike-specific pack in 1991. The family-owned Schwan-Stabilo group, also owner of Ortovox, bought Deuter in 2006. The Vietnamese partner Duke has produced only for Deuter since 1991 and now runs two factories with around 4,000 employees. Deuter owns no factories. Design and development stay in Gersthofen near Augsburg. Fair Wear member.
