Merck KGaA is a German company headquartered in Darmstadt and founded in 1668, making it the oldest pharmaceutical and chemical company still operating. The company is controlled by the Merck family across 13 generations and spans pharmaceuticals, life science and electronics.

Merck KGaA should not be confused with the US company Merck & Co, known as MSD outside North America, which was spun off from the German parent during the First World War.
