CADAC began in Johannesburg in 1948 as the Commercial and Domestic Appliance Company and spent most of its life as a South African braai and gas specialist, in a market where the skottel wok pan counts as standard camping kit. Europe gradually became the bigger business, and in September 2021 Sweden's Dometic Group bought Cadac International, then around 40 staff and roughly €17 million in annual sales sold through more than 600 European dealers. European operations run from Duiven in the Netherlands.
The South African side went a separate way under licence to the JSE-listed Hudaco Industries, so the CADAC on a Dutch campsite and the CADAC in a Johannesburg hardware shop now answer to different owners. What carried over is the one idea the whole range is built on: a single gas base fed by a single bottle, with interchangeable tops that turn it into a grill, a plancha, a pizza stone or a skottel. Where those tops are made, CADAC does not say.
