Qwant is France's flagship privacy search engine, owned by Synfonium, the group backed by the founders of the French cloud company OVHcloud, with the state investor Caisse des Depots as a minority shareholder.
Together with Ecosia, Qwant now runs the European Search Perspective, a joint venture building an independent European search index, so a growing share of its results no longer comes from Microsoft. Qwant will not match Google for niche queries, but it covers everyday search without surveillance.
