MercurySteam is a privately held Spanish studio in Madrid, founded in 2002 by Enric Álvarez. MercurySteam made the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow trilogy and, most notably, two Metroid games for Nintendo: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread.

Nintendo handing a flagship franchise to a Western studio is rare, which makes MercurySteam one of Spain's most globally trusted developers, and Metroid Dread's strong reception justified the bet. Its next game is the action title Blades of Fire.
