Avalanche Studios Group is Sweden's largest independent game developer, headquartered in Stockholm and founded in 2003. The Danish media company Nordisk Games, part of the Egmont Group, holds a minority stake. Avalanche Studios Group is best known for the Just Cause series, Mad Max, Generation Zero and its co-development on Rage 2.
Its in-house Apex engine is one of the most respected open-world technologies in the industry, and the physics-driven chaos of Just Cause remains a benchmark for large-scale sandbox traversal.
