Costa Coffee started in London in 1971 when the Costa brothers began roasting coffee using their Mocha Italia blend, and it grew into the largest coffee shop chain in the United Kingdom.

Costa Coffee has been owned by the Coca-Cola Company since 2019, so while the brand and its roastery remain British, ownership now sits with the United States drinks group rather than a European parent.
