Caffè Nero opened its first London coffee house in 1997 and built a following on Italian-style espresso, paninis and a relaxed cafe setting suited to both work and downtime.

Caffè Nero remains privately held by its founder Gerry Ford through the Caffè Nero Group, keeping the chain independent of the larger listed coffee companies.
