Bas van Abel, Tessa Wernink and Miquel Ballester launched the first Fairphone in 2013, funded largely by customer pre-orders. A €49 million round in 2023 brought in Invest-NL and the ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund, alongside existing investor Quadia. Fairphone launched in the United States in August 2026 with the Fairphone 6+.
