BlaBlaCar is the French carpooling platform that matches drivers who have empty seats with passengers heading the same way. BlaBlaCar has around 100 million members across 22 markets, including France, Spain, Italy, Brazil and India, and added coaches through BlaBlaCar Bus after acquiring Ouibus in 2019.
BlaBlaCar is a genuinely European idea that the big American apps never really replicated: long-distance travel shared between ordinary drivers rather than professional ones. Passengers usually pay around 75 to 85 percent of the equivalent train fare, and BlaBlaCar takes a small platform fee on top. For intercity trips on a budget, it is often cheaper and more flexible than the train.
