Jerónimo Martins is one of Portugal's largest companies, a food-retail group with roots going back to 1792 that runs the Pingo Doce supermarkets at home and the vast Biedronka chain that dominates grocery retail in Poland. From Lisbon it built a genuinely pan-European retail empire.

Shopping at Pingo Doce means supporting a Portuguese retail champion rather than a foreign-owned chain.
