Prosecco PDO is Italy's much-loved sparkling wine, made mainly from the Glera grape across defined areas of the Veneto and Friuli, with the hilly Conegliano Valdobbiadene zone at the top of the tree. Fresh, floral and made by tank method, it is the world's most popular fizz.
The imitation is any generic ‘prosecco-style’ sparkler from outside those zones. Real Prosecco can only come from that corner of north-east Italy.
