Melton Mowbray Pork Pie

Melton Mowbray Pork Pie

United Kingdom United Kingdom

The Melton Mowbray Pork Pie is protected (a UK GI, formerly an EU PGI), made around the Leicestershire town to a strict recipe: uncured grey pork, a bone-stock jelly and a hand-formed, bow-walled hot-water crust that bakes free-standing without a tin.

The imitation is a mass-produced supermarket pork pie made from cured pink meat in a straight-sided tin. Only pies made the traditional way near Melton Mowbray may use the name.
