Techland is a Polish studio based in Wrocław, founded in 1991 and best known for the Dying Light parkour-zombie series, which has sold more than 30 million copies, along with earlier work such as the Call of Juarez westerns and the original Dead Island.
An important ownership note: the Chinese giant Tencent took a majority stake, reported at around 67 percent, in 2023. Founder Paweł Marchewka stays on as CEO, and the studio kept ownership of its games and its creative control, but it is no longer independent. Dying Light has matured into a well-supported live-service game without becoming exploitative.
