# Bancomat

> <p><strong>Known for:</strong> Italy's domestic payment scheme, the name on most Italian debit cards, and the operator of the Bancomat Pay mobile app. Founding member of EuroPA, with cross-border phone-number transfers to Spain, Portugal and Andorra live since March 2025. In April 2026 it took part in the proof of concept for cross-scheme QR payments at merchants. Italy is the eurozone's third largest economy, so its scheme matters for the whole network.</p>

Bancomat S.p.A. is owned by the Italian banks and has run the country's debit network for decades. Its role in EuroPA is to bring Italy's card-based habit into an account-to-account network. Together with Bizum and MB WAY it was one of the three schemes that turned EuroPA from an idea into a live service in March 2025.
