Aleph Alpha is a German AI company, based in Heidelberg, that pivoted in 2024 away from competing on frontier foundation models toward its PhariaAI platform for sovereign, compliant enterprise and government deployments.

In April 2026 Aleph Alpha agreed to combine with the Canadian firm Cohere in a roughly 20 billion dollar deal backed by Germany's Schwarz Group, a Cohere-led merger that will run under the Cohere brand with dual headquarters in Toronto and Germany.
