# Snaps

>
What's in it: A small chilled glass of aquavit (caraway-flavoured spirit) downed in one, traditionally several times during a meal of pickled herring and rye bread.
Where it's from: Denmark, Sweden, Norway. The Danes will fight you over whose Aquavit is best. (It's Aalborg. We can say it now.)
When to drink it: Easter lunch, midsummer lunch, Christmas lunch. Any lunch involving herring, basically.
The case: It's not really about the drink. It's about the singing of skål-songs between rounds. You don't drink snaps. Snaps drinks you.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akvavit
