Umicore also recycles lithium-ion batteries, recovering lithium, cobalt, nickel and copper for new battery materials. Listed on Euronext Brussels.</p>

Umicore has run battery recycling operations since 2011, using a combined pyro- and hydrometallurgical process. Slower electric car demand led to a €1.6 billion write-down in 2024 and a reset in 2025: battery capex was cut in half while investment continued in the Hoboken precious metals refinery.
