# Swapfiets

One monthly fee covers the bike and repairs, and Swapfiets keeps ownership, so bikes are maintained and reused instead of replaced. Available in cities including Amsterdam and Copenhagen. Owned by Dutch family company Pon and still not profitable.</p>

Richard Burger, Dirk de Bruijn and Martijn Obers founded Swapfiets as students. Theft, damage and write-offs kept the company in the red for years. Better recovery of stolen bikes nearly halved the loss in 2025, and in 2026 Swapfiets bought the premium e-bike subscription brand Dance.
