Everyone assumed Uber and Lyft (plus Lime and Bird for scooters) would just own Europe too. Didn't happen. Bolt alone has ~200M users across 50 countries, bigger than Lyft outside the US. BlaBlaCar owns long-distance carpooling with 100M+ members. Free Now runs Europe's biggest taxi-aggregation network. Then there's Cabify, Heetch, Voi, Tier, and Donkey Republic, each carving out solid regional or modal niches.

Why'd the Americans stumble here? Denser cities, stricter regulation, and unit economics that only work at lower fares, the exact opposite of Uber's playbook. And plenty of Europeans just prefer keeping their rides and payments on European platforms.
